Students must physically be in class in order to be counted present. Students can no longer be counted present by simply signing into Google Classroom when they are away from school. It is important for you to know that some of our attendance policies have changed since last school year. Encourage your child to participate in school activities.Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school. Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up.Communicate with your child’s teachers and academic counselor on a regular basis.Post school calendars and schedules in a visible place for the entire family to see.Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.Make sure your child keeps a regular bedtime routine and has a morning routine.Here are some suggestions to help establish these habits: You play a vital role in your child’s academic success, and the first step towards academic success is establishing excellent attendance habits. Excessive absences lead to low grades, underachievement, and a feeling of being disconnected from the school environment. The more days students miss, the harder it is for them to keep up with classroom assignments. When students are absent from school, they miss out on an opportunity to learn from their teachers. This number is alarming because attendance directly impacts student achievement. We have seen a 10 percent decrease in the total number of students that attend school regularly. Although our students have had to overcome many challenges this school year, it has been great to see them learn and grow on a daily basis.Īs the grading period comes close to ending, we have analyzed our school data and noticed a trend with our student attendance rate. We are off to a great start this school year! Time is passing by very quickly, and the first quarter grading period will end in two weeks.
